Why Dave Chappelle “loved” working on A Star Is Born

After Dave Chappelle stepped away from the spotlight years ago, fans were surprised when he announced his comeback.

Even more surprising than that, Chappelle made his return to the big screen in “A Star Is Born.” The heavy drama wasn’t exactly where the public expected Chappelle to appear in after his long hiatus. However, the comedian had a good reason behind why he jumped on board the project.

A Star is Born was headlined, directed and produced by Bradley Cooper. It just so happens that the esteemed actor is a good friend of Chappelle’s. So when Cooper offered the comic a role in the film, he didn’t hesitate. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, the stand-up comedian said that nothing could compare to his experience working with Cooper. ET caught up with him during the Kennedy Center Mark Twain Awards in Washington, D.C. last Sunday.

“The main reason I did it is because I love and trust Bradley Cooper so much.” Chappelle told ET. He then explained, “He actually is a good friend of mine and I love the experience of working with him, but I don’t know if everything [else] is going to be like working with Bradley Cooper, so I don’t anticipate [more such roles.]”

However, Chappelle won’t be hitting the big screen anytime soon. When asked if he was planning to take on more movie roles now that he’s back in the spotlight the comic answered: “I don’t have ambitions like that.”

Chappelle has been focused on his stand-up specials for now. He currently has a lineup of specials on Netflix available for streaming.
