Brad Pitt accepts BAFTAs win with another wisecracking speech

Brad Pitt is on a hot streak this awards season. The “Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood” star bagged another supporting actor prize at the 73rd British Academy Film Awards. He also continued his lineup of acceptance speech quips, this time delivered by his co-star Margot Robbie.

Unfortunately, the A-lister couldn’t make it to the ceremony on Sunday and Robbie had to accept his trophy and deliver his written speech for him. Pitt made sure he still got a belly full of laughs in another amusing speech.

Cosmopolitan UK reported that the actor didn’t attend the awards show over family matters but according to the outlet’s source, “nothing serious has happened.”

On stage, the actress had to explain that Pitt skipped out on the event due to “family obligations” before she read his speech out loud from a piece of paper. “Hey Britain, heard you just became single — welcome to the club,” Robbie read, with Pitt making a reference to the United Kingdom’s recent breakup with the European Union. The crowd roared with laughter in response.

After mentioning Brexit, the actor also couldn’t help but poke some fun on “Megxit.” Still reading from the paper Robbie brandishes the trophy and tells the audience about Pitt’s plan to name it “Harry” because he’s “really excited about bringing [it] back to the States.” This time, Pitt’s quip was met with “oohs” as the cameras cut to Prince William and Duchess Kate Middleton who were at the event. We’re guessing it was a little too soon to break out the Megxit jokes.
