A black and white screening of Parasite is coming to Europe

After it victorious night at the 92nd Academy Awards, Parasite’s theatrical run is set for an extension in Europe. This signifies that distributors are looking to capitalize on director Bong Joon Ho’s film amid the extensive publicity it is receiving as the first foreign language film to ever win an Academy Award for Best Picture.

The film is making a theatrical return in 160 French cinemas today capping a widely successful release via local movie distributor The Jokers. The film has already grossed almost USD 12 million in the country.

The Jokers confirmed to Deadline that a black and white screening of the Oscar-winning film was slated for a February 19 release. The new tagline for Parasite reads “nobody is all black or all white” in the new poster released by the distributor via the news outlet.

A distributor in the United Kingdom also plans to roll out a black and white version of the South Korean film with details yet to be announced.

As for the United States, releaser Neon has partnered with New York’s Film at Lincoln Center and Los Angeles’ American Cinematheque to release the said version in limited engagements. The original film is steadily growing to a USD45 million gross.

“I’m extremely happy to present Parasite in black and white and have it play on the big screen,” said director Bong about the matter. “It will be fascinating to see how the viewing experience changes when an identical film is presented in black and white,” the acclaimed filmmaker added.
